Located in Xiangfan, an ancient city of central China's Hubei Province, Dongfeng Automobile Co Ltd (DFAC) is a shareholding company has three factories, namely, Light-duty Automobile Factory, Diesel Engine Factory and Foundry Plant, and owns 50% stocks of Dongfeng Cummins Engine Co., Ltd.
DFAC has a total number of 1 billion stocks, of which 7 percent of the stocks are owned by Dongfeng Motor Corporation (DMC) as state legal person and 3 percent of the stocks are owned by the public.
DFAC is a high-tech based enterprise, mainly engaging in the development, design, manufacture and sales of Dongfeng series light-duty automobiles and Dongfeng Cummins diesel engine.
Light-duty automobiles of Dongfeng series fully draw on the experience of the proven technology both at home and abroad with a wide adoption of new technologies and equipments in the latest automobile industry in the world. The prevailing automobiles are based on brakes with front plates and back hubs and front axles are of independent suspension system. The pro-car design has enabled light-duty automobiles of Dongfeng series to be in the same rank as those of the same types in 1990s in the world, making it an ideal choice for city commercial use.
Diesel engine of Dongfeng Cummins B series is based on American Cummins Company's technology and independently produced by DFAC. The engine features a compact structure, a wide coverage of power, light in weight and low in oil consumption. The engine could be used as the matching equipment for various automobile types of heavy, medium and light duties or the matching power supply for engineering machinery, shipbuilding and power generator sets.
Dongfeng Cummins Engine Co., Ltd is a joint venture with DFAC as the Chinese investor and produces mainly Cummins C series of diesel engines that is a new-generation product developed from B series engines. It features greater horsepower and better fume exhaustion (up to EURO Standard) apart from the excellent performances of B series engine, and therefore is the most ideal power choice in the 21st century.
At present Cummins diesel engine is in great demand with a sanguine market potential. Dongfeng light-duty automobiles are enjoying robust sales with its market share increasing rapidly, and thus topping the list of automobile producers of the same types since its debut in the market in 1996. DFAC is set to become one of the light-duty automobile and diesel engine producers with highest technology and biggest capacity nationwide after it achieves the capacity of 100,000 light-duty automobiles in the next two to three years.
