(cnhubei.com) The 1,640-meter left section of the Three Gorges Dam will be open to tourists on the coming May Day holiday, China Three Gorges Project Corporation announced on April 9, 2005.

The first and second session of Three Gorges Dam, China's gigantic hydropower project on the Yangtze River, have been completed with a height of 185 meters.

Yichang City in Hubei Province, where the Three Gorges Dam is located, says it is well prepared for tourists.

More than 800,000 tourists visited the Three Gorges Dam area in 2004, with tourism revenue hitting 130 million yuan (US$15.6 million), according to statistics from Xinhua News Agency.
