(english.cnhubei.com) Qu Yuan and Dragon Boat Culture Festival opened in East Lake scenic spot in Wuhan, capital city of central China’s Hubei Province on May 27, 2006.

Dragon boat racing contest was held which attracted many tourists. The festival will close on June 4.

      Qu Yuan was a great politician and poet in Chu State (Hubei) in the Warring States Period (476-221BC) who threw himself into River. The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated in memory of him on the day of his death, the fifth day of every fifth lunar month.
