(english.cnhubei.com) Two giant Chinese sturgeons which were injured 2 years ago in Yichang of central China’s Hubei Province, recovered recently and will be released to Yangtze River Hubei section on April 22, 2007.
It is the first time in China’s sturgeon protection history that recovered sturgeons were released and it has a high value in scientific research.
Know as panda of the water, the animal has been listed among the most endangered species under protection by the Chinese Government. It is the oldest kind species in the Yangtze and estimated to be 140 million years old.
Statistics show the survival rate of artificially-bred Chinese sturgeons is only 1 per cent.
